Cimalux takes its responsibility in terms of environmental protection and conservation of natural resources very seriously. The Environmental Management Systems in both plants, Rumelange and Esch, are since end of mai 2011 certified ISO 14001.

It should be noted that the Luxembourg cement industry produces no waste or byproducts, which must be recycled. All the dusts that are captured in filters are recycled in the clinker and cement production.

For the treatment of other waste, Cimalux has charged the "SuperDrecksKëscht fir Betrieber" to organize an effective waste management.

Since January 1, 2005, all cements that are produced in the Esch plant - in bulk or in bags – have a "low soluble chromate content” according to European Directive 2003/53/EC", i.e. the content of soluble chromate is below the critical threshold to lead to an allergy in contact with the skin.

To enable the users of bag cement to get rid of the empty paper bags and bringing them in line with the legislation of waste recycling, Cimalux has set up in its Esch plant a container for empty cement bags which can be disposed of there free of charge by the customers.
