Cement production

Cement is a hydraulic binding material, consisting of a mineral powder, which hardens by adding water.

The basic material is clinker. It is a mixture of calcium silicates and calcium aluminates, produced in a rotary kiln by calcining limestone, marl and argillaceous material. .

Another raw material, used for the production of the so-called metallurgical cements, is the granulated blast furnace slag. It consists of hyaline calcium- and magnesium-silicates, which result from quick quenching with water of the liquid slag which is isolated during the manufacture of hot metal in the blast furnace.
